Introduction
Welcome to Mafia-Station Role-Play III, the third installment of the Mafia-Station game series. Starting out can be confusing, we know, we've all had to go through it at one point, so here's a small guide to help get you get on your feet.
If you still have questions after reading this, feel free to ask any Staff members for assistance. It's our job to help you, the player.
You need to read the rules before you proceed any further. By playing MSRP III, you automatically agree to abide by them, so it's best to know what you're agreeing to. From this point on, you're required to follow the rules, and not reading them isn't an excuse...
Biographies, where legends are born...
First and foremost, all characters must have a biography. Make a small bio for your character here. Your biography is where you write the basic information about your character and record your inventory throughout your character's life. It contains basic information about your character like height, weight, hair color, things like that. It can be extremely detailed, or have the least information possible. It's entirely up to you. It's main purpose is to record your inventory, and without one, you don't have any items at all, that's why you need one. You can use other characters' layouts as examples, or simply create your own. It's up to you. Once it's done, you'll need to put a link to it in your signature somewhere.
Made your bio? Now you need to keep track of your cash...
Is your biography ready? Good! It's time for the next step. This is where you make what we call a Finance Tracker here. This is what we use to show how much money a character has in his/her possession. You start at $0, but will earn money as you write different crimes and jobs, referred to as heists, over time. You can use this money to buy weaponry, cars, businesses, etc. The process for recording your earnings is explained in the Finance Tracker forum.
Now it's time to introduce yourself!
Got your biography and tracker up? Good! Now, it's time to introduce yourself in the New Player Introduction Thread. This is where you can get in touch with other players for the first time, and maybe even join their criminal organizations. All you have to do is make a short post detailing who you are and what you plan to accomplish with your character. Once you've been invited to join an organization, the owner and other members of that group will take you through the process. Who knows... they may even provide you with your first gun.
Little tip... if you want to be taken seriously, use the best proper English that you can. It's highly discouraged (and against the rules) to use '1337 speak' here. Don't post like you talk on AIM (for those who say 'u' instead of 'you').
Ready to hop in the action?
After you have done that, you'll want to start actually playing the game. You do that by posting as your character in the city forums. These are more commonly referred to as the IC (in-character) forums or IG (in-game) forums. That's where all the action takes place. You may rob whatever, kill whatever, and basically do whatever you want. But be wary, because you must do it smart. If you leave large flaws, then a Staff member may counter the post with a realistic outcome that you must defend against. The Staff control law enforcement entities, the military, random non-playable characters, etc. What is a non-player character, or NPC for short? It is ANY character not controlled by you, the player. You can earn the respect of NPCs throughout the game and recruit them. You can then use them in your heists to help your main character.
It is recommended to use Nevada as your starting point. This is our 'sandbox' that allows newer players to get used to the game without the scrutiny found in the criminal warzones of Chicago and New Orleans. For your first job, simply write a small story about your character's actions. At the end of the post, you need to add a section called 'requests'. Here, you list all of the things you hope to aquire from that story, whether it be money stolen, weapons taken, etc. Everything needs to be detailed, and we expct all players to write to the best of their individual abilities.
Here's a small example of a bad role-play...
Example of a bad RP...
Jimmy was walking down the street one morning, when he saw an old lady on the side of the road in a walker. He walked up and bitch-slapped her, watching her fall to the ground with a cry of pain. He ordered her to shut her mouth, grabbing the lady's purse and running.
Request:
- The lady's purse.
We expect that all role-plays be of a MUCH higher quality than that, using detailed descriptions and good grammar. If we feel a post is of mediocre quality, then it may be denied and we may ask you to re-write it, or counter your post using a police response, etc.
In addition, all items must be aquired in the present-day. You may have a backstory for your character, but cannot earn money or items from it. Your post MUST be realistic. No superpowers here. Anything you do must be believable. If not, you may get bitch-slapped. Don't try shit like laser-vision or flying.
Be realistic. A 500 pound guy isn't going to run 10 miles in five minutes, so don't try and use unrealistic stuff like that.
Another thing, the difference between OOG (out-of-game) and IG (in-game). Any arguments out-of-game can not be taken to the game. We will not tolerate any hits made on a character just because they made you mad in real-life. There has to be a real reason that your character would attack theirs.
Judgments... are you worthy?
All done with your heist? Good. Now, you need to post a link so that we, the Staff, can review your heist and requests. Simply go to the Judgment Center and post the link. The Staff use this forum to find the jobs that need review. Now comes the big part, the judgment, sometimes referred to as 'grade' by tradition. This is where a Staff member reads your post making sure that you should receive the requests. If there is a large flaw in the post, then a difficult choice may be asked of you. The Staff member may take control of police and/or other NPCs in an effort to counter your post. This presents a new challenge for the player. You may write another role-play defending against this counter, or may simply run away. Running away often forfeits your requests, and may lead to other consequences, such as possible arrest, etc. Defending may get you ALL of your requests AND MORE.
Once your requests have been approved, then your role-play gets locked and archived for everyone to see, forever burned into MSRP history. Have followers, destroy entire families, crush your enemies, earn a fortune... how will you be remembered?
It's all up to you.
