He is currently one of the major Crime Bosses who has power and say in New York City, and his influence is felt as far as Las Vegas and San Francisco. He gained power quietly and remains a blip on the FBI's radar as far as their investigations are concerned. He has three brothers and two sisters, however two of his brothers are now in institutions for mental health reasons. His mother lived until her early 100's and his father died from a supposed heart attack in 1933. However, heart attacks are usually not caused by factory accidents.

Biography

Early Life

Born in 1919 to an Italian immigrant couple, refugees from the First World War, Mario Matteucci started out life in New York City. As a child he learned quickly the value of rhetoric, leadership, and of course intimidation. Not very big, nor very strong, he used persuasion and bluffing, backed by subversive tactics to make sure no one messed with him in grade school.

By the 1930's the depression had hit, and he, along with his four brothers and two sisters (all of which are currently living - he is the eldest however) had to make ends meet and survive. He organized a local neighborhood gang, and slowly built up enough connections and resources that his family always had food to eat. In 1933 his father - also named Mario(b. 1890 d. 1933) - was killed in a factory accident, furthering the hardship of the Matteuccis.

Criminal Beginnings

The death of their father left Mario, and his three brothers - Richard(b. 1920) Vincent(b. 1921) and Martin(b. 1926)to support his mother Maria (b. 1899 d. 2005)and his two sisters Gertrude(b. 1924) and Margie(b. 1923). He organized a local neighborhood gang, and slowly built up enough connections and resources so that his family always had food to eat, with help from Richard and Vincent. The gang he ran was soon taking on bigger challenges, roughing up bakeries and offering protection.

Of course the larger and real mafioso at the time took notice, and soon a very powerful button man from a family in Manhattan, called Jimmy Gills(b. 1879 d.19??), took him under his wing - enabling him to afford more luxuries that were hard to come by in the mid 30's. He began to earn more money through protection, taking his brothers along with him, however when he turned 23 the Draft came calling, and he was off to serve in Europe - with the assurance from his contacts in the family he was in that all would be fine when he got back.

Off to War

Eventually two of his brothers were drafted as well, the second oldest, Richard, receiving a wound that nearly killed him - and forever put him in a nursing home. His other brother, Vincent, lost his left leg in the jungles of the Philippines. Mario served until the end of the war, receiving several citations in the process until a stray bullet knocked him out of action in the Battle of the Bulge. Mostly a minor injury, the scar remains on his left thigh where the bullet grazed him.

Back on the Streets

After the war he participated in the families affairs until the 1950s with Vegas. Having kept his role secret, and with the help of his brother, and later under-boss, Vincent he was able to stay out of the stings, and out of the light of the FBI. By the 1960's his net worth was over 2 million dollars, and he had control of rackets across the country, using his brothers to manage Chicago and Vegas interests. They had all become button men by the early 60's, and together they orchestrated a coup, which made Mario Don, Vincent Underboss, and Martin - the youngest - third in line.

During the 1970s his illegal empire grew in size, eventually taking a large stake in the Dixie Mafia along with other areas not commonly associated with the mob. From California to Vermont activities ranged from small time gambling to big time thefts of automobiles and of course fixing races. Eventually by the 1980s the times began to catch up - in order to salvage the family as the rest of the crime world crumbled he sold off much of the stake in illegal businesses that were further away than the east coast. He maintained a portion of the Vegas income - however that gradually moved to Reno and Mesquite as Vegas sold out to the Japanese. In 1985 Vincent had a psychotic episode, and was later found to be suffering from dementia - he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's.

Family Tragedies of the 80s

Along with this tragedy came the death of Mario's only son, Lil'Mario(b. 1952 d. 1982) at the hands of a rival gang (which was wiped out in less than three days after the murder)- leaving grandchildren to inherit the throne. His brother Martin took over as underboss, and has been helping ever since. Vincent remains in a nursing home in the final stages of Alzheimer's - nearing the reapers door every day in the same facility as his other brother Richard.

Additionally his wife of many years, Elisabeth(b. 1929 D. 1989), passed away in her sleep from an undiagnosed heart ailment. This left an aging Mario alone, and without any of his nuclear family left, except his mother. She would stay around and be a part of the household until her dead in the 2000s.

Today

The nineties saw a revolution in the moneymaking by the Matteucci family as Mario's grandsons pioneered the usage of computer and electronic crime to further the goals of the family. Heavily into fraud and drugs one of the grandchildren and presumptive heirs to the throne of the 300 million dollar empire was arrested, bringing scrutiny on Mario for the first time in his life. However, because he always played everything using other men, he came off looking clean and rosy, just an old man who's grandchildren lost their way after the death of their father.

Of course this wasn't true, and he got his eldest grandson, Markus, out of prison in a week through some string pulling, and legal advocacy. However Markus remains on probation - and as such has been left to fend for himself with the exception of a monthly payment of 5 grand from his grandfather. The middle grandson - Michael, has succeeded in other illegal activities and continues to provide income. Mario's youngest grandson - Mario IV, has been uninvolved with the family. Additionally many of the other family members are related to Mario through Vincent and Martin - both having many children of their own, and grand children.

Most recently the vacuum in power has left Mario Matteucci the only capable Don in New York to be able to organize a commission and to effectively negotiate with all the sides - preventing many wars in New York. However, his influence in Jersey is not as large, and conflicts across the country with other families are drawing too much attention again - meaning the feds are eying the secretive operations he has had going for years. Thus, it has become Mario's personal mission to bring families from all major cities into a commission fold, along with the big five from New York, and make sure less attention is paid to them so that business stays profitable.
